What am I working on?
Working on doing nothing. :P I have not picked up any artwork for a couple of days now. I think I have some kind of a creative block now.
What am I reading?
I recently read Ghost World by Daniel Clowes. The book’s visuals are striking — black‑and‑white line illustrations washed in a green hue. The story follows two friends, Rebecca and Enid, as they navigate everyday life. Often hailed as a cult classic, Ghost World explores the complexities of friendship and the bittersweet drift into adulthood. Yet, for me, it didn’t deliver the depth I was hoping for. The more I thought about it, the more it felt like a tale of two angry, cynical girls who spend much of their time swearing, gossiping, and talking about sex, while seeing the worst in everyone around them, with their weird tales.
What am I watching/watched recently?
I watched Arco, one of this year’s Oscar nominees for Best Animated Feature. This sci-fi animation imagines two futures: one in 2075, and another in a drowned Earth where people live in treehouse-like homes in the sky. The story follows Arco, a 10‑year‑old boy from the far future who accidentally lands in 2075 and meets Iris, sparking a journey to return him home.
Visually, Arco is stunning, with a fantastical style that is similar to the magic of Studio Ghibli. The film brims with imaginative moments that make you go “wow.” For a story about the near‑total eradication of life on Earth, it’s surprisingly hopeful, clinging this thin thread of optimism.
Yet, for all its beauty and wonder, Arco didn’t quite move me emotionally. It’s good but it left me untouched, like a rainbow you admire from afar without ever feeling its warmth.
New thing I learnt lately?
I came across an article "The mysterious Redditor who’s changing the way we do laundry" that talks about a profile of an enigmatic Reddit user known as Kismai (u/KismaiAesthetics), who has become a cult figure in the laundry community.
I was amazed how one person’s deep-dive into a mundane chore has changed so many people's way of doing that chore.
